Field Recording

We're delighted to have acquired a new portable recorder to make high quality work almost anywhere. The Zoom H5 Handy Recorder is a brilliant bit of kit that is versatile for video as it is recording up to four tracks simultaneously. A handheld device that also has a tripod mount connector. Shock-mounted microphones minimise vibration and handling noise ensuring great-sounding recordings in all sonic environments.

Not only does it have pre-record function, but also an Auto-Record function to automatically start and stop recording at predefined sound levels. We can think of a few ideas where this will come in very handy.

A Line Out with adjustable volume allows you to send audio to the input of a camera or other device without the need for an attenuator cable.

The H5’s XLR/TRS combo inputs can handle both mic- and line-level signals for microphones, wireless receivers, mixers, keyboards and more. Each input has a dedicated gain control knob. The supplied XYH-5 capsule also provides an additional mic/line input via a ⅛" mini phone jack basically meaning that you'll never be stuck no matter what connector is required - and with an interchangeable mic capsules (the silver part on top) a variety of mics can be used.

We can't wait to put it to use to see how good it really is, but we've already got plans to record Foley sounds for a project we're working on in conjunction with Black Hole Studio. The next few weeks are going to be a lot of fun experimenting and creating a range of audio for this short film project.
